Music Director

Dr. Sharon Huff has been the Music Director of the Brass Band of Central Illinois since 2007.  Dr. Huff earned her BME summa cum laude from Illinois State University, and an MM and DMA from the University of Illinois. She has recently retired from the faculty  at Millikin University, where she conducted the Millikin University Concert Band, supervised student teachers, taught Applied Tuba/Euphonium and Brass Methods, and coached the  Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble.  Before coming to Millikin, Dr. Huff taught at Illinois State University and St. Norbert College near Green Bay, Wisconsin. She has also taught a variety of humanities, music literature, and music education courses. From 2013-2016,  Dr. Huff served as the Director of Music Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Bloomington, IL.


As a clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and soloist, Dr. Huff has performed and conducted across the Midwestern and Eastern U.S., as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, and Austria.  Dr. Huff served as the Conferences Coordinator for the International Tuba/Euphonium Association from 1994-2002; and, in that capacity, she helped plan International Tuba/Euphonium Conferences in Evanston, IL; Riva del Garda, Italy; Minneapolis, MN; Regina, Canada; Lahti, Finland; and Greensboro, NC.  Dr. Huff is a Willson/DEG  euphonium artist, and with the quartet Junction, she performed on tours through Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Austria; as well as at the 2001 ITEC in Lahti, Finland, the 2002 Mid-Europe Festival in Schladming, Austria, and the 2003 IWBC in Normal, IL.  In addition, she has been a performer and soloist with the University of Illinois Brass Band, a soloist with the Athena Brass Band, and guest conductor and performer with the Monarch Brass Ensemble and guest conductor of the Michigan Monarch Brass.

Elected as President of the International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC) in 2001, Dr. Huff was Co-Host of the 2003 and 2006 conferences, which were held at Illinois State University.  She currently serves as a Past President and Treasurer/Bookkeeper of the IWBC.
