Concert Program
Prepare to groove to infectious rhythms such as samba, pasodoble, rumba, tango, salsa, and more in this vibrant night of music from Latin America and Spain brought to you by Dr. Sharon Huff and the Brass Band of Central Illinois. Selections include fiery favorites such as Tico Tico, El Cumbanchero, Fandango, and España.
You’ll be amazed by the versatility of Dr. Danielle VanTuinen, our featured euphonium soloist and assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Florida. Her astonishing technique will be on display when she performs a theme and variations based on La Cucaracha, and her sweet tone on Estrellita will have you dreaming of little stars. The xylophone will burst into flames as Dr. Danielle Moreau, who also teaches at University of Florida, puts on a blazing display of percussion virtuosity in Flying Mallets.
In addition, BBCI flugelhorn player Myles Singleton has a stirring rendition of Concierto de Aranjuez, and we’ll feature an original composition by BBCI member Tom Fatten titled Latin Satin. We close the evening with Malagueña, a spicy classic that will have you dancing in the aisles. ¡Olé!
